More about us

A short history:

Downland Singers were formed in 1993 by a small group of enthusiasts.

Many of the original founders had already had distinguished careers in local amateur concert and theatre performance which provided the solid foundation on which the quality of the new society was built. Since those early carefree days, a strong organised structure has evolved which any society must have if it is to survive and move forward.

Membership has increased to the current level of 28 but the emphasis is, as it always was, on being a friendly, easy-going group with a high level of musical attainment.

Any invitations to perform concerts within the South East Hampshire area will always be considered.

Requests are often made to perform at weddings. Usually a small group is required but, for grand occasions, a full choir with conductor can be organised.
